School Council

We have a School Council which enables pupils' views to be heard.

Introduction
The School Council has 3 layers, enabling pupils to share ideas and to raise issues and concerns. Each class has 2 representatives on the main School Council. This group meets twice in each half term and discusses matters of concern to the whole school. The second layer is the Year Group Council. Four representatives from each class meet twice each half term to discuss matters relating to their year group and to receive feedback from the main School Council meetings. The third layer is the Class Councils. Here, all children within the class have the opportunity to comment on school life and to raise and address matters pertinent to classes.

At the meetings children make and vote for suggestions to make the school a better place. Main School Council meetings are joined by Mrs Rose, Year Group Council meetings by Year Leaders and Class Council meetings by Class Teachers.Notes are made in every meeting and fed back to the class.

Improvements the School Council has initiated
They have voted on how money raised should be spent and as a result, every class has its own digital camera and every year group a set of ‘Tuf cams’ – video cameras. They regularly discuss and address playground issues.

How are School Councillors elected?
If someone is interested in being a councillor, they put their name forward. They then have to give a speech on why they will be a good School Councillor. The children in the class then vote for the pupils they think are the best.

Each councillor has a School Council badge to wear on their uniform.
