Volunteer School Library Assistant(s)

Robin Hood Junior School is looking for one or two people to support the school’s Librarian with running the library from 12.15pm to 1.30pm over the lunchtimes every day during term time.

We would be pleased to hear from volunteers who are keen to share a love of books and reading with our children.  You should be able to commit to helping on a regular and ongoing basis, preferably have experience of visiting/using a library, and be enthusiastic, willing to help and able to work on your own initiative.  We have a fantastic new library which was opened last November by the Mayor of Sutton and it is extremely popular with the children.  We are looking for someone to help keep the library books in good order on the shelves, supervise and help children choose suitable books and, with training, use the simple online library system to issue and return the books.

You will be trained for the role and there will always a member of staff on hand to provide any assistance needed.  Once confident with the role, the volunteer(s) will be expected to run the library when the Librarian is not available.  Ideally we would prefer to secure two volunteers that can commit to a minimum of 2 or 3 days a week on a long term basis, but this is open to discussion.

To safeguard our children we always carry out our own safer recruitment checks for volunteers and this includes an enhanced  DBS check and two references.  You are welcome to browse our school website to find out more about our school.  Our school is in the heart of Sutton, close to the cinema and easily accessed by bus.  Further information on this opportunity and how we support our volunteers is available by emailing the school.
