Just before half-term we reported the exciting news that we would be installing a Green Screen in our school playground. Whilst the children were off enjoying their half-term, the contractors were busy throughout the course of the week installing our ‘Living Wall’ at the far end of our playground and we are all delighted with the result! Measuring a massive 54 metres in length, it is one of the largest screens to be installed and features a mixture of plants and herbs as well as ‘bug hotels’ as pictured below.
The children have enjoyed spending time outside this week investigating the different plants and herb scents and looking closely at the bug hotels to see if any creatures have taken up residence!
Not only will this living wall provide the children with additional greenery to enjoy within our school grounds, it will also allow them to learn about ecosystems and the natural environment. The 15 varieties of herbs that have been planted will give the children more of an understanding about horticulture and where their food comes from.
Do ask your child to show you this fabulous new feature when you are next in the playground!
