Y6 Fun Afternoon

On Friday 10th June, Year 6 will be holding their annual ‘Fun Afternoon’, a school fair planned by and run by the Year 6 children.  We are delighted to be able to reinstate it into our school calendar after a two year absence due to Covid restrictions and we know that it will, once again, be remembered by children across the school as a highlight of the year.

All of the Year 6 children have worked in groups to plan their stalls. Firstly, they had to use their maths skills to consider how to make their stall as profitable as possible taking into account time management and probability. Then they had to put their ideas into a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style pitch which they presented to the Year 6 staff.   They are now busy organising their advertising, equipment and prizes and are looking forward to giving the rest of the school a fun afternoon whilst raising money at the same time.

The money raised is used to pay for our summer production which, this year, is ‘Around the Universe in Eighty Days’. As anyone who has ever seen one of our shows knows, we aim to make it as spectacular as possible to make the children’s last half term with us an unforgettable one. We use the money raised for lighting, scenery, props, costumes and other special effects and will spend every penny! All of the children in the school will be able to see the finished show in July.

Our target is to raise at least £1500. For us to achieve that it would be fantastic if every child could bring about £5 with them to spend. The stalls will all be priced at 50p per go. Last time we were in a position to hold Fun Afternoon we broke all records with an amazing £1850 and we know that the current Year 6 children would love to beat that record!

Without giving too much away, in past years the children have offered henna painting, sponge throwing, biscuit icing, hair colouring, penalty shoot-outs, a range of food and drink stalls and even fortune telling, to name but a few!  This year will not disappoint and promises to be an action-packed afternoon.

On behalf of the Year 6 children, thank you for your support
